Elizabeth Wolfram Thill, Entering Class of 2005

Elizabeth received her BA in Classical Archaeology from the University of Michigan and her MA from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Her Masters Thesis (The Glory of Rome: Architectural Depictions on the Column of Trajan) explored how depictions of architectural structures on the Column of Trajan were used to characterize and differentiate opposing cultures, and thus played an important role in the thematic concerns of the Column. As a fifth-year graduate student in Classical Archaeology, Elizabeth is beginning her dissertation on how architectural depictions can contribute to the archaeology of Roman cross-cultural interaction by serving as ancient “portraits” of what it meant to be Roman or provincial. Her interests include the interaction of decentralized and centralized societies, and the application of geoarchaeology and archaeometry to the field of Classical Archaeology.
