A flyer about The Body and The Letter, a lecture from Professor Rosenmeyer
Professor Patricia Rosenmeyer will present a lecture on Latin epistolography for the Mahindra Center Seminar on the Civilizations of Ancient Greece and Rome at Harvard University on September 29, 2021. This talk explores how Roman letter writers (Cicero, Seneca, Ovid) construct their epistolary addressee’s absence and their own presence on the page, showing how a letter may be a reflection of the writer’s soul, a replacement for the writer’s physical body, or even include a “real” trace (e.g. blood, tears) of the absent body.
