Eta Sigma Phi is the national undergraduate honorary society of classical studies. The local chapter at Carolina, Eta Alpha, was established in 1996. It has a faculty advisor, but is otherwise entirely student-directed. It organizes a variety of activities during the academic year. These vary from year to year, depending on the interests of the students involved, but over the years have included Latin and Greek poetry readings groups, Latin and medieval Latin sight reading groups, peer tutoring in Greek, movie nights, and guest speakers. Since 2013 the group has organized an annual undergraduate conference, providing a venue for students both from UNC-CH and other institutions to present their research in a formal setting. For further information about the local chapter of Eta Sigma Phi and its current activities, please contact the Faculty Advisor or President.
