Carolyn L. Connor
Professor Emeritus of Byzantine Studies
Carolyn L. Connor is a Byzantinist specializing in middle-Byzantine church decoration, monasticism, and architecture. The interdisciplinary approach used in her research extends to her teaching of all periods of Byzantine Civilization–the eastern Christian empire with its capital in Constantinople (today’s Istanbul) which incorporated the heritages of ancient Greece and Rome, and flourished well into the middle ages. Prof. Connor regularly combines and synthesizes perspectives based on artistic and archaeological evidence, historical accounts, literary works, and religious beliefs.
